LOCATION•UBICACION:  Escazu Centro  -  Coming up the hill from the Scotia Split - heading towards Centro Escazu - pass Plaza Atlantis-AutoMercado and keep going up/South.  Where you HAVE to turn Right (at the light - Fresh Market is on the left/South/East corner there) - veer right/West.  At the 2nd street turn LEFT/South (the AWESOME, BEST, CHEAP Tico Restaurant I've found - Casona de Laly Restaurant is on your Right/the North/West corner).  At the first street turn Right (the tasty roasted chicken place - Pollo Male is there - on your Left - the South/East corner).  Go down 1 block and it’s on the corner on your Right/the North/East corner - across the street from the 2nd Municipalidad office.  OR - it’s 100 meters North from the main Municipality of Escazu office (the one on the main East-bound street of the park/church - where the buses run heading back DOWN to San Rafael de Escazu)  •  100 mts al norte de la Municipalidad de Escazu.

P.O. BOXES•APARTADO POSTAL:  Depending on where you live will determine where your PO Box is located.  In  Escazu it’s either at the main post office in Escazu Centro, or in San Rafael de Escazu at Plaza Robles or Plaza Colonial  •  Apartados Escazu Centro, Plaza Roble y Plaza Colonial

YEAHHH!!!  Costa Rica is FINALLY coming into the 21st Century and getting ZIP CODES or Codigo Postals as they're called here!!

It's a 5 digit code and how it works is:
The first digit corresponds to the Province/State.  The second 2 digits corresponds to the Canton/City and the last 2 digits are the District (like San Rafael, Centro, San Antonio, etc.).

HOW DO YOU ADDRESS AN ENVELOPE •
GIVE YOUR ADDRESS FOR MAIL in Costa Rica?

You know that Spanish seems to usually be the reverse of English when writing/saying something - so you would write it basically giving the main "famous"/point of reference and then the meters it is from there:
My old one was a bit complicated - but after 2 visits - my postal carrier Erick knew my name and said "Hola Vicki" on the street to me one day!  (maybe giving him a banana and some water helped him remember me - but then again, I AM quite memorable one way or the other!!!).  It was something like:

Vicki Skinner
Calle Vieja -  Calle Country Club - 75 meters Este.  Enfrete Cafe Torino - 100 meters - Casa Naranja
San Jose, Escazu - San Rafael
10203  Costa Rica
(I'd actually put my cell number on it as well - JUST in case!!)

Amazingly - even Fed Ex found me without calling me!!!

MAILING THINGS  •  RECEIVING MAIL
FYI  -  I've found both in mailing things to the U.S. and receiving things from the U.S. has taken me about 7-9 days.  MOST of the time I've received everything (though I mainly get my Voter Ballot information)
BUT
ONE time when I first moved here I mailed regular mail my Tax Returns to the IRS and to the state.  The State was received BUT the IRS claims it was NOT!!
So if it were ME - for something THIS important - I'd send it Registered or better yet - invest the $$ and send it Federal Express or the like where YOU can track it!!!!
I don't have experience with Certificado•Certified from Costa Rica so can't say if I'd use that for something THIS important (since if you do NOT "file" AND are late on your taxes - the fines are HUGE!! [I learned the hard way!!]).
Or if you know someone you can trust that's going back to the states and can mail it for you.
